TASO Subscriber Membership Philosophy
The founding of TASO arose from a shared empathy for people affected by HIV and AIDS at a time of unprecedented stigma, discrimination, rejection and hatred directed towards people associated with the disease. It remained a unifying factor in mobilizing other stakeholders to join the response and it is that drive that became the Subscriber Membership Philosophy.
Membership is open to all regardless of one’s sero status. What is important is having compassion for persons suffering as a result of HIV and AIDS.
As a subscriber member, one commits to uphold the obligation, rights, and responsibilities to persons affected by HIV/AIDS, TB and Malaria and these include among others:
- Right of community to access correct information to make informed decisions to prevent transmission
- Rights of persons infected and affected by HIV to access quality services
- Responsibility of PLHIV to cultivate positive health, dignity and prevention.
- The responsibility of the community to support affected members of their community

- Joining other members to constitute the Center General Meeting (CGM) and Annual General Meeting (AGM) which are the supreme decision-making organs of TASO.
- Eligibility to vote and be elected (with other requirements met) to serve on the TASO governance committees; Center Advisory committee (CAC) and Board of Trustees (BOT).
As a membership-based organization, we remain accountable first and foremost to our members.
