About the LHPS Ankole Project
On August 11, 2020, the Presidents’ Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) awarded The AIDS Support Organization (TASO), a 5-year Cooperative Agreement Number 72061720CA00014 from August 12, 2020 and ending August 11, 2025 to support the implementation of a district-based integrated package of quality HIV and AIDS and TB services to contribute to significant, measurable, and sustainable impact on the beneficiary population in twelve districts, 1 City and 4 Municipalities in Ankole region including: – Buhweju, Bushenyi, Ishaka – Bushenyi Municipality, Ibanda, Ibanda Municipality, Isingiro, Kazo, Kiruhura, Mbarara, Mbarara City, Mitooma, Ntungamo, Ntungamo Municipality, Rubirizi, Rwampara Sheema Municipality and Sheema.
In August 2021, USAID/Uganda expanded the geographic coverage of the Local Partner Health Services (LPS) – Ankole sub-region activity from the current coverage to an additional eight (8) districts in Acholi sub-region in Northern Uganda to include Agago, Amuru, Gulu, Kitgum, Lamwo, Nwoya, Omoro and Pader, to be implemented by TASO through a transition award from RHITES-N, Acholi. TASO collaborates with the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation (EGPAF) USAID/Regional Health Integration to Enhance Services in South West Uganda (RHITES SW) and University Research Co. LLC (URC) USAID/RHITES N. Acholi Activity to ensure a smooth transition of HIV and TB services.
The USAID Local Partner Health Services – Ankole and Acholi Activity portfolio focuses on an integrated health system strengthening approach for primary health care, in line with Uganda’s Health Sector Strategic and Investment Plan for the implementation of the District-Led Programming (DLP).
Our Goal
To support the public health sector to increase the availability, accessibility and utilization of quality integrated HIV and TB services in the Ankole Region to contribute towards the attainment of the 95-95-95 UNAIDS targets by 2030 and sustenance of epidemic control through UNAIDS under the PEPFAR.
Key Result Areas
- Quality, targeted, high yield, facility-based HIV testing and counseling services provided at scale.
- All diagnosed people living with HIV and TB are promptly initiated on treatment.
- All diagnosed people living with HIV and TB on treatment achieve viral suppression.
- Target districts have the institutional capacity to sustain epidemic control and maintain the response.
